The ‘Make Something Big’ is a very challenging week. But at the same time, absolutely rewarding. As a complete beginner, learning to use the Shopbot is tedious, a bit scary, and exciting, all at once. There is quite a lot of preparation involved as you can see.
I personally spent around 12 hours with the machine, learning how to use it, making lots of mistakes, like breaking the drill bits… Twice. And lots of us spent a similar amount of time in front of the machine. Now multiply this number for 20 people and you get an idea of why we are a bit late with this post! But the results are spectacular, and we are all really proud of our products!
Théo has prototyped a chinese-inspired wheel barrel to casually transport people around, between the Fab Lab and the coffee machine.
We also had lots of beautiful Fab Chairs designed and produced! Gabriel has been to the Salone del Mobile in Milan with his chair, check out his page for more information!
Kalil made a very practical chair/desk, that you can use in multiple configurations, that is also modular. So when we have lectures and all desk spaces are taken he definitely knows where to sit!
Alessandra made an origami inspired chair.
Daniel made the most ingenious and interactive device!
Milena made a lovely and very practical reels and tape holder for her Maker Space! Completely fabbable!
Francesca was inspired by circular analog knitting machines, and made a bigger version of it that can also function as a book shelf.
Mariona got her 7 years old son involved in the design of this modular chair/box, and asked in exchange for some help in cleaning up the wood dust from the CNC machine. Fair play! If you liked these prototypes, make sure you check out all our students projects here.
